Luxury SUV: BMW India has launched the X1 LWB in the Indian market at a price of Rs 49.90 lakh, ex-showroom. It has been included by the company in the X1 lineup and is available only in the sDrive18i M Sport variant. Compared to the standard X1, the X1 LWB has a longer wheelbase, which is expected to provide more space and better comfort, especially to the rear passengers. At the same time, the company is still selling the diesel engine X1 with standard wheelbase.

Engine and Performance
The BMW X1 LWB has a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. This engine generates power of 156hp and peak torque of 230Nm. It is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, which transmits power to the front wheels.

Its torque output remains the same as the previous petrol X1, while power has been increased by 22hp. Due to this, the performance of the SUV may improve compared to before.

Design and exterior
The X1 LWB comes with 18-inch alloy wheels and its design is very similar to the standard X1. At the front, BMW’s signature kidney grille along with adaptive LED headlamps and LED daytime running lamps are available.

Apart from this, the SUV has been provided with satin-finish roof rails, flush-fitting door handles, panoramic glass roof, shark-fin antenna, rear spoiler, sculpted bumper and LED tail lamps. Overall, its design looks premium and sporty despite being similar to BMW’s existing X1.

Interior and rear seat space
The dashboard layout of the X1 LWB is largely the same as the standard model. However, the biggest benefit of the long wheelbase will be available to the rear seat passengers. Rear legroom and seating comfort are expected to be better due to more cabin space.

Talking about the features, it has been provided with features like electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, electrically operated ORVMs, dual-zone climate control, rear AC vent and powered tailgate.

Advanced Features and Technology
A long list of premium features has been given in BMW X1 LWB. This includes a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, BMW Digital Key, Park Assist Plus, Reverse Assistant, integrated navigation and connected car technology.

Apart from this, the SUV also gets power-of-the-air software updates, voice assistant, USB Type-C charging port and different driving modes.

Safety Features
For safety, the X1 LWB has features like 8 airbags, ABS with EBD, Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control and Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Along with this, electronic parking brake, front and rear parking sensors, rear-view camera and ISOFIX child seat mount are also available.

Several ADAS features have also been included in the SUV, which help in enhancing safety and convenience while driving.

There will be competition with them
BMW X1 LWB will compete with vehicles like Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3 and Volvo XC40 in the premium compact SUV segment in the Indian market. With more rear seat space and petrol engine, the X1 LWB emerges as a new option for the customers in this segment.
