ChatGPT’s new Messages integration allows it to scan through chats, generate responses and sent messages directly from Messages.

OpenAI recently created Apple Messages plugin ChatGPT enabling Mac users can send and receive messages from the AI.

Through these chats ChatGPT can analyze conversations, reply and send messages along with sending and searching the conversations. Using the feature you’ll be able to search chats that you have.

Analyze your Chats Summarize your conversations. Draft reply to any conversation. Send Textmessages from chat with anyone.

This feature works with all kinds of messages you already have via the messages app (such as SMS and RCS and iMessage as well).

But there are privacy concerns, with ChatGPT gaining the ability to read messages once the proper permissions are set.

OpenAI notes that the feature performs its processing on the Mac locally, and users need to give explicit permissions for ChatGPT to integrate with Messages.

Apple’s move has also drawn debate about privacy, with questions about having an AI interface for messages that might contain private conversations.

Although useful for those buried in messages, the move presents a tradeoff of ease of use versus opening up those conversations to an AI service.

The announcement will expand the uses of ChatGPT to not just answering questions, but allow it to control everyday applications and make communication tasks on user’s behalf.
