India’s Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will take on China’s Tan Ning and Liu Shengshu in the women’s doubles semi-final at the BWF World Championships in New Delhi on Saturday.
The unseeded Indian pair have already secured a historic medal after producing a stunning comeback against fourth seeds Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian in the quarter-finals.
The result ended India’s 15-year wait for a women’s doubles medal at the World Championships and extended the country’s remarkable streak of winning at least one medal at every edition since 2011.
Standing between Treesa and Gayatri and a place in the final are Tan Ning and Liu Shengshu, another formidable Chinese combination.
After their breakthrough quarter-final victory, the Indians will now look to go one step further and become India’s first women’s doubles pair to reach a World Championships final.
