The second Test between India and Sri Lanka is scheduled to begin on Sunday, August 23, at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. It will be India’s 11th match of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle.
India have played 10 Tests so far, recording five wins, four defeats and one draw. Shubman Gill is also on the brink of a major milestone, needing only 26 more runs to become the first Indian batter to score 1,000 runs in the current WTC cycle.
1. Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill leads the Indian batting charts with 974 runs from 16 innings in nine Tests. He is just 26 runs away from reaching the 1,000-run mark and could achieve the feat in the second Test against Sri Lanka.
Gill has produced five centuries and one half-century during the ongoing WTC cycle.
2. KL Rahul
KL Rahul occupies the second spot among Indian batters, having accumulated 913 runs in 19 innings across 10 Tests.
The opening batter is also within touching distance of 1,000 runs and could reach the milestone with a substantial contribution in Colombo. Rahul has registered three centuries and four fifties in the current WTC cycle.
3. Ravindra Jadeja
All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is third on the list with 747 runs from 17 innings. His tally includes two centuries and six half-centuries.
Jadeja’s contributions with both bat and ball have made him an important part of India’s Test setup during the championship cycle.
4. Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal follows closely behind Jadeja with 745 runs in 19 innings. The left-hander has three centuries and three half-centuries to his name in the ongoing WTC cycle.
5. Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant completes the top five with 633 runs from 13 innings. The wicketkeeper-batter has scored two centuries and four half-centuries during the current championship cycle.
With the second Test against Sri Lanka approaching, both Gill and Rahul have an opportunity to join the 1,000-run club in WTC 2025-27.
