A 19-year-old student, Malhar Nilesh Patil, alleged that he was abused and assaulted by six named members of NSUI and Youth Congress along with 50-60 workers during a confrontation at COEP hostel in Pune. Shivajinagar police registered a case under multiple BNS and Maharashtra Police Act sections. No notices have been issued yet, while CCTV and electronic evidence are being examined.
Pune: A 19-year-old student has lodged a complaint at the Shivajinagar Police Station alleging that he was abused and assaulted by members of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and Youth Congress during a confrontation at the COEP hostel in Pune.
The accused have been identified as Pushkar Abnave, Bhushan Ranbhare, Akshay Jain, Saurabh Amrale, Sagar Dhadwe and Prathamesh Abnave, along with around 50 to 60 NSUI and Youth Congress workers who were allegedly present at the spot.
According to the police complaint, the incident took place between 8.30 pm and 11 pm on August 21 at the COEP hostel in Shivajinagar. The complainant, Malhar Nilesh Patil (19), a resident of Aundh, said he had gone to the hostel along with members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) to inquire into and discuss a video statement allegedly obtained from a female student under pressure.
Patil alleged that the six named accused and the other workers abused and assaulted him during the discussion.
