Rahul Gandhi's Students Ki Gunj, the fourth program in the country, concluded with great enthusiasm in Pune witnessed by thousands of girls. Students Ki Gunj program received a huge response. Rahul Gandhi kept the program conversational rather than political.

When Rahul Gandhi arrived in Pune in the afternoon, state president Harsh Vardhan Sapkal, Legislature party leader Vijay Wadettiwar, group leader in Legislative Council Satej Patil, senior leaders Balasaheb Thorat, Naseem Khan, Yashomati Thakur and other leaders and officials welcomed him. Later in the evening, Rahul Gandhi interacted with the girls in the Students Ki Gunj program, and learned about their questions, problems and pains.

People associated with BJP and RSS have the mindset that women should be kept in cages

“People associated with the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have the mentality that girls and women should be kept in cages, but we don't want such an India. We want a system where everyone is treated with respect. The mentality of suppressing women comes from 'Manusmriti' and today our fight is against this mentality,” said Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi at Students' Ki Gunj program in Pune.

“Women have been denied their rights for thousands of years”

On this occasion, Rahul Gandhi commented on the status of women in the country and said how their rights are being denied. He said, “Women have been denied their rights and rights in the country for thousands of years, Manusmriti says that women should not be independent but women should be given freedom, there is great strength in that. Women should stand on their own feet and create their own identity. A girl may have a relationship with her father, brother, husband or son, but they are not their property, they are her own,” Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha asserted.

Statistics of violence against women presented

Rahul Gandhi further said, “Violence is used to prevent women from progressing in society. There are three types of violence: Physical violence- 4.5 lakh feticide is committed every year. 80% of women face torture. 29% of women are victims of physical violence. 6% of women are raped. Opportunistic violence – 50% of women are denied education or employment opportunities in the name of security. Economic violence- an extra Rs 17,500 per year in the name of safe travel.” Women are controlled in different ways in the country.”

“Freedom of movement/behaviour: 60% of women cannot leave home alone. Freedom of decision/choice: 45% of women have to give up education or work due to marriage or domestic responsibilities. Economic rights: Only 8% of women have land ownership rights. Different forms of disrespect or humiliation are seen in our country: 99% of cases of sexual violence are not reported due to fear of social stigma. 84% of women have to ask their family's permission to work. Women's income is 25% lower than men's.” And they don't get promoted easily.”

“When I talk to men, I find that women are often only seen in three frames: daughter, wife, or mother. There's nothing wrong with any of these roles, but they can't be your only identities. Women play many roles: professional, athlete, leader, creator, entrepreneur. Yet, often their identity is defined only by their relationship with a man.” Rahul Gandhi said.
