Sisters Lucy Robertson and Hannah Davies had only recently moved to Abercarn, Wales, in 2016 when their mostly outdoor cat, Charlie, disappeared. They searched for her and posted appeals online but found no trace of the pet, according to People.

Then, one day before Robertson turned 30 in 2026, the family received an unexpected phone call. “The most craziest thing happened this morning,” Robertson wrote on Facebook, explaining that Davies had been contacted and told Charlie had been found 10 years after going missing.

Davies, 37, said she was “gobsmacked” when a veterinarian called her.

A local resident who had been feeding Charlie took her to a clinic, where staff scanned her microchip and traced her back to the sisters.

Robertson said the family had spent years wondering what had happened to Charlie. “It was heartbreaking,” she said. “We were scared that she had been knocked over or that she wasn’t around any more.”

Despite being away for 10 years, Charlie was found in good health and had no major medical problems. The sisters still do not know where she had been living or how she spent the decade after disappearing.

Robertson said Charlie looked almost unchanged from old photographs and recognized both sisters immediately. “She doesn’t look much different at all,” she said. “She looks exactly the same as the old photos we have of her.”

The family is now helping Charlie readjust to life at home and become familiar with their other pets. Robertson described the reunion process as a “work in progress,” according to the BBC.
