While several car manufacturers are discontinuing diesel engines due to increasingly stringent emission norms, Indian automaker Mahindra is taking a different approach. The company continues to offer a wide range of diesel-powered SUVs, and a significant portion of its sales still comes from diesel models. Along with its petrol and EV line-up, Mahindra also plans to continue offering diesel engines in some of its upcoming products. Here is a list of four such upcoming Mahindra SUVs that are expected to get diesel engines.

Mahindra launched a Thar facelift last year, but it looks like the company is not done updating the SUV. Since the beginning of this year, we have been seeing test mules of another Thar facelift, which is likely to arrive in India soon. As part of the latest update, Mahindra is expected to offer a revised front grille, Roxx-like projector headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, new or revised tail lamps, and new alloy wheels.

Unlike the previous update, Mahindra is expected to offer features such as a digital driver display, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, and ADAS. The SUV will remain mechanically unchanged. It will be offered with a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine in the lower trims and a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine in higher variants. The 2.0-litre petrol engine will also continue to be offered. Mahindra will continue to offer 4×4 on select variants.

Mahindra’s upcoming sub-4-metre SUV, the Vision S, based on the new NU-IQ platform, is currently undergoing testing in different parts of the country. It is expected to be a rugged, boxy-looking SUV with a host of premium features that buyers in this segment look for. The production version is expected to retain several design elements from the concept and could be launched next year.

The Vision S is expected to offer features such as a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, leatherette upholstery, a large touchscreen infotainment system, a 360-degree camera, and more. It is expected to be offered with a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine along with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine.

The original Scorpio, which is currently sold as the Scorpio Classic, will also receive a facelift soon. As per recent reports, Mahindra will retain the existing design while making minor tweaks to keep the SUV fresh. These changes could include a new alloy wheel design and an electric sunroof.

Mahindra might also update the touchscreen infotainment system and introduce a new cabin theme. The SUV will continue to use the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine that produces 130 bhp and 300 Nm of torque. It will be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission only.

Mahindra also unveiled its upcoming lifestyle pickup truck, the Scorpio Lifestyler, at its annual event this year. The Scorpio Lifestyler is a global pickup truck based on the same platform as the Scorpio N. The platform has been stretched and reinforced to accommodate the dual-cab body and cargo bed at the rear.

It gets an upright stance and features LED headlamps with L-shaped DRLs. The pickup also gets a massive grille at the front and looks rugged with 18-inch wheels, thick cladding, and Mahindra branding at multiple places.

Inside, Mahindra will offer a large portrait-oriented touchscreen, leatherette upholstery, dual-zone climate control, a single-pane sunroof, ventilated seats, rear AC vents, an electronic parking brake, automatic hill hold, selectable terrain and drive modes, and Level 2 ADAS.

Mahindra will offer the pickup truck with a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine, while a 2.0-litre petrol engine is also expected to be available. The pickup truck will be offered in both 2WD and 4×4 versions. Its official launch is expected to take place next year.
