New Delhi. Today i.e. on Saturday, August 22, a second year student allegedly committed suicide in the academic campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. This extremely tragic incident has shaken the entire academic community. After this incident, there was panic in the entire institute and the local police immediately reached the spot and started investigation.

Incident details and immediate action
According to the local police, information was received regarding an emergency situation inside the academic block of this prestigious technical institute of the country this Saturday morning. The deceased student has been identified as Hrishikesh Kumar, who was a second year undergraduate student. Officially attached to Shivalik Hostel of the campus. As soon as the incident was reported, emergency teams from the campus immediately admitted Rishikesh to a nearby hospital. However, the hospital doctors declared him dead after investigation.
Initial checkup and accommodation
At present, senior Delhi Police officials have started a legal investigation to find out the reasons for the tragedy. Important information to the student's background has come to light in the preliminary investigation. In this, sources to the investigation have indicated that Rishikesh was undergoing treatment for health problems for some time. Due to his continued ill health, he was not staying in the student rooms of Shivalik Hostel. Instead, he was living with his mother in rented accommodation outside the campus to take care of himself.

Current status of investigation
The police have taken the body into their custody and sent it for post-mortem to confirm the legal cause of death. Apart from this, teams of crime branch and forensic experts have closely inspected the incident site to collect evidence. Investigators have confirmed that no suicide note was found at the spot. Police are currently investigating the student's recent call records, messages and social media accounts. Also, family members, friends and faculty are being questioned to know whether he was going through any academic or personal stress.

IIT Delhi administration has expressed deep grief over this incident. The institute has issued an official statement expressing its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and made it clear that they are providing all possible cooperation to the Delhi Police in the ongoing investigation. Furthermore, the Dean of Student Welfare of the institute has appealed to all the students that if they are facing any kind of academic pressure, anxiety or mental stress, they should not hesitate to seek help from the dedicated mental health and counseling services available within the campus.
