Neeraj Chopra performed brilliantly in the Lausanne Diamond League and threw his best throw of the season. The Indian javelin star finished second with a throw of 88.05 metres. Rumesh Pathirage Tharanga of Sri Lanka finished first with a lead of just 9 cm. Grenada's Anderson Peters (86.69) finished third.

Double Olympic medalist Neeraj has been battling injuries in recent times. He made a comeback in the Commonwealth Games 2026 and won a silver medal. Here too Rumesh was ahead of him. Neeraj will now participate in the Asian Games.

Neeraj showed his strength in the second attempt

Neeraj Chopra did not do anything special in the beginning of the match. He could throw only 83.54 meters in his first attempt. Whereas Rumesh had thrown 85.99 meters in the first attempt itself. In the second attempt, Neeraj showed his strength and achieved first place with a throw of 88.05 meters. Rumesh could only throw 87.06 meters in the second attempt. Neeraj's third attempt was not as expected and he threw 83.72 meters.

Rumesh once again secured the first position in the third attempt with a throw of 88.14 meters. Neeraj fouled in his fourth attempt, while Rumesh's throw also could not cover much distance. Neeraj did not throw in his fifth attempt, whereas in the sixth attempt he could throw only 82.15 meters. Rumesh fouled in his fifth and sixth attempts. However, Rumesh's third throw proved decisive for him.

After making the best throw of the season, Neeraj said, 'I did not know that it was only 9 centimeters. It was very close but I am quite happy with the throw of 88 metres. To be honest, I didn't realize when it went 88 meters. I was feeling quite relaxed. I tried hard and then trusted my technique.
