Quevin Castro Dies: Former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Quevin Castro has died at the age of 25 after collapsing during a pre-season friendly in Portugal on Saturday.

Castro was playing for third-tier side Real Sport Clube against Estrela da Amadora at the Estadio das Seixas in Lisbon when he collapsed during the early stages of the match.

He received immediate medical attention on the pitch before being taken to hospital. Despite efforts to revive him, Castro was later pronounced dead.

The Lisbon Football Association confirmed his death and offered condolences to his family, friends and club. His exact cause of death has not been confirmed.

Castro received treatment on the pitch after collapsing during the friendly. Reports said a doctor used a defibrillator in an attempt to revive him before emergency services took him to hospital.

With the cause of death yet to be officially established, there has been no confirmation of any underlying medical condition.

The tragedy has prompted tributes from the clubs and organisations connected to Castro during his football career.

Castro's Career In England

Born in Portugal and raised in Norfolk, Castro came through the Sporting CP academy before moving to England.

He joined West Bromwich Albion in 2021 and made his senior debut against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup. He later made another first-team appearance against Swansea City.

Castro also spent time on loan at Burton Albion, Notts County and Gateshead before leaving West Brom in 2023.

He subsequently represented York City, Chippenham Town, Cambridge City and Eastbourne Borough. He returned to Portugal this summer to join Real Sport Clube.

York City described Castro as a much-loved member of their squad while expressing their condolences to his family and friends.

West Brom To Honour Former Player

West Bromwich Albion said they were "devastated" by Castro's death and announced plans to honour their former player during their Championship fixture against Burnley.

The club will hold a period of applause in the 25th minute, reflecting Castro's age at the time of his death. West Brom players will also wear black armbands.

Real Sport Clube and Estrela da Amadora also paid tribute following the incident as the football community mourned Castro's sudden death at the age of 25.
