Biometric updates for children's Aadhaar are free until September 30. Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBU) are required at the ages of 5 and 15.

If you have pending tasks regarding your child's Aadhaar, do not wait until the last minute. If your child has turned 5 or 15, get their biometric details updated now. UIDAI has made this update free until September 30. You can visit a nearby Aadhaar center to have your child's fingerprints and iris scans updated at no cost.

Aadhaar is used for children in school admissions, examinations, scholarships, and to avail benefits from various government schemes. Keeping biometric information updated in Aadhaar can minimize issues during identity verification. UIDAI has also urged parents and guardians not to wait for the deadline and to complete the MBU in time.

Mandatory updates at ages 5 and 15

When creating Aadhaar cards for young children, their photographs and other essential details are usually collected, but fingerprint and iris scans are not performed for those under the age of 5. This is because children's biometric features change as they grow. Therefore, the first biometric update is mandatory upon turning 5, and a second update is required at age 15.

This biometric update for children can be done free of charge at Aadhaar centers across the country until September 30. A decision regarding whether to extend this free service will be made later. If the free service is not continued, a fee may be charged for the update.

20 million children updated so far

According to UIDAI, biometric details for approximately 20 million (2 crore) school-going children across the country have been updated so far. A special campaign for this purpose was launched last September and has reached over 156,000 schools. UIDAI has appealed to guardians to get their children's details updated in a timely manner to avoid overcrowding and delays during the final days.

UIDAI had waived the biometric update charges for children aged 7 to 15 for a one-year period starting October 1, 2025. The objective is to ensure that the necessary biometric information is updated in the Aadhaar records of as many children as possible.
