Posters depicting Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi as a “real-life Batman” have appeared outside the Congress headquarters in New Delhi, drawing on a recent exchange that sparked online memes and student-led trends. The display comes amid Gandhi’s involvement in protests over police excesses, where he pressed authorities to act on claims of pellet-gun use.

‘Real-Life Batman’

The posters carry the tagline: “The silent guardian, a watchful protector. LoP Rahul Gandhi, the real-life Batman.”

The imagery follows an “Ask Me Anything” interaction Gandhi held earlier this month with students and young citizens on Instagram.

Asked in a light-hearted exchange whether he was Batman, Gandhi replied: “Let’s just say that no one has ever seen me and Batman in the same room together.”

The remark subsequently fuelled viral trends online and memes created by students.

Protest Fallout

On Friday, Gandhi joined Congress leaders and Sahil Lochav in a sit-in outside the Parliament Street Police Station after taking part in the Jantar Mantar protests led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP).

Lochav has alleged that pellet guns were used against him during the protest. Gandhi and the others demanded that police register an FIR.

Gandhi refused to leave until action was taken, saying: “No FIR, no justice. So we sit.”

The Delhi Police subsequently registered a formal FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

SC Panel

The Supreme Court on Thursday constituted a five-member High-Powered Expert Committee (HPEC), headed by retired apex court Justice R Subhash Reddy.

The panel has been tasked with conducting a fact-finding exercise into allegations of police excesses and violence by protesters during the recent CJP-led demonstrations.

The committee includes former Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Ravi Shankar Jha, former Delhi High Court Justice Shalinder Kaur, former CBI Director Rishi Kumar Shukla and former Meghalaya DGP LR Bishnoi.
