The BJP’s decision to form a special team for Gen Z outreach has drawn a sharp response from Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-convenor Saurav Das, who questioned the party’s choice of leaders tasked with connecting with young voters. Taking aim at BJP president Nitin Nabin and national general secretary Smriti Irani, Das mocked the party’s attempt to engage the younger generation, citing their past political remarks and controversies.

‘Wonderful Decision’ To Reach Gen Z

Reacting to the BJP’s move on X, Das described it sarcastically as a “wonderful decision” to reach out to Gen Z.

He particularly criticised Nabin, alleging that the BJP leader had previously described the younger generation using terms such as “virus and cockroach” and characterised protesters as part of the “tukde tukde gang”.

Das also took aim at Irani, raising questions over her tenure as Union Education Minister and her handling of issues involving public universities and the death of Hyderabad University student Rohith Vemula.

He further referred to controversy surrounding Irani’s educational qualifications, using the phrase “Yell University” in his post.

BJP’s Gen Z Push

The BJP announced its youth outreach initiative during a meeting of its newly appointed national office-bearers.

The special team includes Nabin, Irani, BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and Chhattisgarh minister OP Choudhary.

According to the party, the group will focus on understanding youth concerns and considering policy responses. The BJP also announced initiatives including a National Innovation Challenge and the ‘Sewa Mein Mera Yogdan’ campaign to encourage young people to participate in national activities.

The party said it would also create opportunities for young people to participate in social media initiatives, including hosting reels.

Das, however, questioned whether leaders facing criticism over their remarks and past political records could effectively serve as the BJP’s faces for Gen Z.

He ended his post with a sarcastic reference to the BJP’s selection, writing: “Three claps to the BJP for a marvellous set of ‘Gen Z faces’!”
