Ismaila Sarr: Crystal Palace set over £50 million asking price for Manchester United target

Manchester United's surprise Premier League defeat to Hull City this weekend has raised serious concerns at Old Trafford. The Red Devils were unable to find a way past the Tigers' disciplined defence and were punished from two set-piece situations.

Michael Carrick's side had been scoring freely since the Englishman took charge in January this year, but the Premier League newcomers managed to shut them out completely. Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Marcus Rashford and Benjamin Sesko were all unable to make a telling impact, while Bruno Fernandes also endured a subdued performance.

The result once again highlighted United's defensive problems, but it also brought fresh attention to their shortcomings in attack. The English heavyweights have been linked with forward reinforcements throughout the summer, particularly with the futures of Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee still unclear.

Following the setback against Hull, strengthening the attack could now become even more important, and one of the players still being linked with a move to Old Trafford is Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr.

Sarr joined Selhurst Park in the summer of 2024 after spells with Metz, Rennes, Watford and Marseille. The Senegal international made an immediate impression at the London club, scoring 12 goals in his first season.

Last season, the 28-year-old scored 21 goals across all competitions.

Sarr is known for his blistering pace, direct style and ability to thrive in transition, attributes that would naturally suit Carrick's tactical approach. Although the Senegalese attacker is mainly deployed on the right wing, he is also capable of playing through the centre.

An earlier report carried by The Peoples Person indicated that Manchester United would face competition from Galatasaray in the pursuit of Sarr. There has now been a fresh development in the situation.

According to TEAMtalk, Crystal Palace want more than £50 million before they would even consider allowing the player to leave this summer. The report states: “Crystal Palace want more than £50million to even consider allowing Ismaila Sarr to leave the club this month, with Galatasaray continuing their attempts to sign the Senegal international amid rival interest from Manchester United, TEAMtalk can reveal.”

Galatasaray are already ahead of Manchester United in the race and have reached an agreement with the player's camp. Even so, Crystal Palace remain firm that any transfer will only happen if their valuation is met.

The same report adds that the player is open to leaving Selhurst Park this summer, saying: “TEAMtalk understands Sarr is keen on the possibility of leaving Selhurst Park, while Galatasaray are pushing to try to make the move happen.”

That valuation would make Sarr the second-most expensive player in Turkish football history behind Victor Osimhen, and Galatasaray are hesitant about matching such a fee. United are continuing to monitor developments closely, but at present a move appears difficult to complete this summer.

The report concludes: “United continue to keep abreast of developments, although we understand a move for Sarr would also prove difficult given Palace’s stance.”

Sarr is at the peak of his career and his Premier League experience could help him settle quickly at the Theatre of Dreams. However, as he prefers to play on the right and with Mbeumo and Amad already in the squad, United may be better served targeting a left-wing option instead.

The Peoples Person Reliability Assessment Overall credibility: 7/10 Why?

✅ Reported by a source with a decent Manchester United track record. ✅ United have recently been linked with the player. ⚠️ No official confirmation from the club.
