Mumbai, 23 August 2026: Two people died and five others were injured when a Ganesha idol collapsed in South Mumbai. Two children are also included among the injured. The idol was being brought to the pandal for installation.
An official had said that the incident took place at around 10 pm on Saturday night at Balram Merchant Road near Pigeon House and Jai Ambe Chowk in Bhooleshwar.
However, two people died due to serious injuries. After this incident, Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, Traffic Police, 108 Ambulance Service and Municipal Ward employees were sent to the spot.
The officer had said that the deceased have been identified as Sanket Nevshe and Brijesh Hemant Joshi.
The five injured people have been identified as Vaibhav Ghenand, Pawan Chaurasia, Lavanya Ganer, Divya Ganer and Kunal Kashid.
Municipal officials said that the condition of all the injured is stable. The 10 day long Ganeshotsav is one of the biggest and grandest festivals celebrated in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra.
During this festival, idols of Lord Ganapati are installed and worshiped in pandals and homes. Grand processions have been organized to bring the idols to Mumbai for more than a decade.
