Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police has foiled a suspected terror conspiracy after arresting three people allegedly linked to the banned terrorist organization Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). The accused were caught near the Sector 43 Inter-State Bus Terminus with a suspected improvised explosive device (IED), explosive materials and a firearm.
The recovery has raised security concerns, with investigators probing whether the accused were planning a major attack in the city.
Explosive Material Found Hidden Inside Tiffin Bag
According to police officials, the suspicious items were recovered from a bag kept near the Sector-43 bus stand area. The seized material included a suspected IED, 5 kg gelatin sticks, a detonator, power source, remote operating system, a pistol, magazine and five live cartridges.
Security teams immediately cordoned off the area and the explosive material was examined following standard safety procedures.
Three Suspects Identified After Arrest
Police identified the arrested accused as Lovepreet Singh (19) from Sarhali village in Tarn Taran, Jashanpreet Singh (21) from Deobath village in Tarn Taran, and Prabhpreet Singh alias Prabh (19) from Tarsikka village in Amritsar.
An FIR has been registered at Sector 36 police station under relevant sections of the Explosives Act and Arms Act. Further investigation is underway.
Probe Into BKI Connection and Foreign Handler Link
Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused were allegedly in contact with Satnam alias Satta Naushera, a foreign-based handler associated with BKI. Investigators suspect that the accused may have been acting on instructions received from outside the country.
Police teams are now investigating the source of the explosives, the intended target, and whether more people are connected to the alleged terror network.
Officials said detailed questioning of the arrested suspects could reveal further information about the conspiracy and possible links with other modules.
