Manchester United have opened discussions with the agent of Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde, according to journalist Gianluigi Longari in a recent post on X. The Red Devils are said to be keen on signing the Spanish defender and have already spoken with his representative, Jorge Mendes, over a possible switch during this transfer window.

Balde put together a decent spell of form for Barcelona in the previous campaign and delivered a number of impressive performances down the left side. The 22-year-old registered three assists in 42 appearances for the Catalan outfit last season in all competitions.

The Spanish prospect is currently regarded as one of the most gifted full-backs in La Liga. As a result, Manchester United would be wise to try and complete a move for him in this transfer period.

His existing contract at the Nou Camp runs until the summer of 2028, which means it could be difficult for the Red Devils to bring him in for a bargain fee this off-season.

Alejandro Balde of FC Barcelona was challenged by Pablo Ibanez and Angel Perez of Deportivo Alaves during the La Liga EA Sports match between Deportivo Alaves and FC Barcelona at Estadio de Mendizorroza in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, on May 13, 2026.

Balde is a solid tackler and shows good awareness when it comes to sensing danger and winning possession back for his side inside his own half. He is also capable of clearing his lines when needed and remains a reliable passer of the ball.

The Spaniard can also carve out some useful opportunities for his teammates in the final third. Although he mainly operates as a left-back, he is also capable of playing as a left-winger when required. However, there are still some doubts over whether he would be able to cope with the physical demands and high tempo of the Premier League if Manchester United succeed in signing him this month.

Balde would be expected to add more quality and squad depth to Michael Carrick’s defensive options at Manchester United. He certainly has the ability to compete for a regular first-team place at Old Trafford over the next few seasons.

At 22, Balde appears to have a very bright future ahead of him, provided he keeps developing year after year. Therefore, he could prove to be an excellent long-term option for the Mancunian giants.
