Former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah opened his account for Trabzonspor in emphatic fashion, scoring a match-winning brace in a 2-1 win over Istanbul Basaksehir on Sunday. The Egypt star found the net once in each half and overcame Eldor Shomurodov's penalty equaliser to hand his new club their first Turkish Super Lig victory of the 2026-27 season.

Egyptian forward scores first brace

Salah marked his first Super Lig start with two goals as Trabzonspor beat Basaksehir 2-1. The Egyptian attacker capitalised on a goalkeeping mistake to put his side ahead inside the opening eight minutes, before restoring the lead soon after half-time following Shomurodov's penalty. The experienced winger was then denied a debut hat-trick late in the game when his third effort was ruled out for offside.

Summer signing makes instant impact

The 34-year-old attacker joined the Turkish club on a two-year contract at the beginning of August. His match-winning performance arrived in only his third appearance for Trabzonspor, after he made his debut from the bench in a 1-1 draw away to Kasimpasa and then earned his first start against Ferencvaros in the Europa League play-offs. His quick adjustment gives manager Fatih Tekke a proven high-level option in attack.

Salah goes close to spectacular goal

Apart from his two decisive strikes, the former Liverpool talisman also came close to producing a stunning long-range effort. With the score locked at 1-1 before the break, he struck a powerful shot from distance that was heading towards the top corner, only for the Basaksehir goalkeeper to keep it out with an acrobatic save. That effort highlighted the danger he posed throughout the match and foreshadowed the winning goal that came after the interval.

Busy run of fixtures ahead

Trabzonspor next travel to Hungary for the second leg against Ferencvaros, before an away match against Amed SK on August 31. Getting such an immediate return from their marquee signing reduces some of the pressure of balancing early-season European and domestic commitments. Keeping this sharp edge in attack will be crucial if they are to challenge near the top of the table.
