New Delhi: Monsoon is completely kind in the central and northern parts of the country, but this kindness has now become a disaster for many areas. The new weather system formed in the Bay of Bengal has put a brake on the pace of North and Central India. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), today torrential rains are expected to continue throughout the day in 17 states of the country including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The deepest impact of this catastrophic rain is being seen in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, where many rivers are in spate.

Alert in 22 districts of Madhya Pradesh

The situation in Madhya Pradesh is also no different. Due to simultaneous activation of monsoon trough and cyclonic circulation, there is continuous rainfall across the state.

The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain in 22 districts of the state during the next 24 hours. There is a danger of heavy waterlogging in Narmadapuram, Betul, Chhindwara, Pandurna, Narsinghpur, Damoh, Seoni, Jabalpur, Vidisha, Sagar, Raisen and Mandla.

Flood havoc in Uttar Pradesh, more than 80 ghats of Ganga submerged

At present, serious flood like situation prevails in more than 14 districts of Uttar Pradesh. Areas like Prayagraj, Varanasi, Barabanki, Sonbhadra and Mirzapur are most affected by this. The urban areas of Barabanki are so flooded that boats have to be used instead of vehicles on the roads and people are being evacuated to safe places.

On the other hand, a rapid rise in the water level of Ganga river has been recorded in Prayagraj and Varanasi. More than 80 ghats of Varanasi have been completely submerged in water, after which the administration has issued a strict warning to the people living in coastal areas to remain alert.

Landslides in Himachal and Uttarakhand, roads closed

Rain has brought with it scenes of devastation in the hilly states. Due to continuous rains in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, landslides are occurring at many places. A large part of the Pathankot-Mandi National Highway caved in due to heavy rains, causing complete disruption to traffic. The next 24 hours are considered sensitive in Himachal’s districts like Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Kangra and Kinnaur. At the same time, caution has been advised in Rishikesh, Haridwar, Chamoli and Rudraprayag of Uttarakhand in view of the possibility of landslides.

Delhi-NCR gets relief from humidity

On the other hand, the people of Delhi-NCR have got a big relief from the humid heat due to this monsoon rain. The drops in Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram for the last two days have led to a drop in the temperature. The Meteorological Department estimates that this gathering of clouds will continue for the next three to four days in the capital and surrounding areas and intermittent rains will continue.
