Guinea Garbage heap collapses: At least 22 people died in a massive landslide in Guinea on Sunday. The incident occurred when a part of the open garbage dump built amidst the mountains collapsed and fell on nearby slums, burying many people under the pile of garbage. Due to the weight of the garbage, the three-storey building below it collapsed. However, the administration had already issued instructions to vacate this dangerous area. According to reports, 6 people were seriously injured and were later rescued.

According to reports, the incident took place in 'Dar es Salaam', the largest garbage dump in Conakry, the capital of the West African country.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Balde Mamadou Bailo, a sanitation officer at the Military Engineering Battalion, the landfill was to be closed on Sunday. Local officials have warned that the death toll could rise as rescue teams carry out search operations in the affected areas.
Guinea's Minister of Territorial Administration, Djenabou Touré, visited Ground Zero, where emergency response teams were working amid the debris. He said officials will announce the confirmed number of casualties after the search and rescue operations are completed.
