New Delhi: A woman constable of the Delhi Police Metro Unit saved the life of a 16-year-old girl who allegedly attempted to jump onto the metro tracks at Hauz Khas station, an official said on Monday, August 24.

The incident took place on August 22 when Constable Nikita, while patrolling the station, noticed the girl moving towards the tracks with an apparent intention to end her life, he said.

Nikita immediately intervened and restrained the girl despite her repeatedly attempting to move towards the tracks, police said.

With the assistance of other staff, the girl was taken to the Yellow Line Station Control Room, where she provided information that helped police contact her father.

Her father reached the station control room and the girl, a resident of Sector 5 in R K Puram, was identified.

During the inquiry, police learnt that the minor had been undergoing treatment for a mental health-related condition at RML Hospital for about a year and had previously attempted to harm herself.

After completing the necessary formalities, the girl was safely handed over to her father, police said.
