Rishabh Pant's injury remained a talking point during India's dominant second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo after the India wicketkeeper-batter was left out of wicketkeeping duties on Day 2. Pant had already been struck on his left wrist on the opening day before returning to bat and scoring 63.

Dhruv Jurel took the gloves in Pant's absence and later provided an update on the injury, saying Pant was dealing with shoulder pain but should be fit to keep wickets on Day 3.

Pant was hit on his left wrist during India's first innings on Day 1 and was subsequently retired hurt. He returned to the crease on Day 2 and made a valuable 63, but did not take the gloves when Sri Lanka began their first innings.

Jurel, who had scored his second Test century earlier in the day, stepped in as wicketkeeper.

Speaking after play, Jurel explained why Pant was not behind the stumps and provided a positive update on his teammate's condition.

"Rishabh Pant had pain on his shoulder so I kept the wickets today. He should be fine to keep tomorrow. The medical team is closely monitoring him," Jurel said, as quoted by RevSportz.

The update will come as a relief to India, with Pant an important part of the Test side and one of the team's key match-winners.

Jurel also explained the meaning behind his unusual celebration after reaching his century.

After completing his second Test hundred, the wicketkeeper-batter displayed the "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan" tattoo on his hand. He revealed that the gesture was dedicated to his father and grandfather, who come from military and farming backgrounds respectively.

"My grandfather was a farmer and my father a soldier. I don't want to forget my roots and that celebration was for them," Jurel said.

He also dedicated the century to his parents, acknowledging the sacrifices they had made during his journey.

The century was Jurel's first Test hundred outside India and came at a crucial stage of India's innings in Colombo.

Jurel, Padikkal Put India In Command

Jurel's century was one of the highlights of another dominant batting display from India.

Devdutt Padikkal top-scored with 117, while Jurel remained unbeaten on 115 as India declared their first innings at 503/9.

Shubman Gill scored 50 and Pant contributed 63 despite his earlier injury concern. Ravindra Jadeja added 43, while Yashasvi Jaiswal made 45.

Sri Lanka's reply got off to a poor start as they ended Day 2 at 8/2 after three overs. Lahiru Udara was dismissed for one by Prasidh Krishna, while Prabath Jayasuriya fell for two to debutant Manav Suthar.

Sri Lanka therefore trail India by 495 runs heading into Day 3.

Jurel Praises Pant's Unique Approach

Jurel also spoke about his relationship with Pant and admitted that he often seeks advice from the senior wicketkeeper-batter.

"The way Pant plays, it's different. I can't play like that. I keep on asking him how to take on a bowler," Jurel said.

He added that the two players are happy to see each other succeed despite competing for the same role in the Indian team.

"When he scores, I feel happy. When I score, he feels good. It's good," Jurel said.

With India already leading the two-Test series 1-0, Pant's fitness will remain an important storyline heading into the third day's play. Jurel's update suggests the injury is being closely monitored, with the wicketkeeper-batter expected to return behind the stumps if he is fit enough to do so.
