Skoda New 5 & 7 Seater SUVs: Skoda's big announcement in India; 2 Made-in-India electric SUVs to be launched soon!

  • Skoda will launch two locally produced electric SUVs in India, a 5-seater and a 7-seater.
  • These new cars will compete directly with Tata Harrier, Tata Safari and Mahindra electric cars in the Indian market.
  • Skoda is developing the battery manufacturing technology completely locally to make the cars available at an affordable price.

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India is gearing up for a major expansion of electric vehicles in India under its 'India 3.0' project. The company will launch the cars in India in a phased manner and will launch imported premium EVs like Ilrock, Enyak or Peak before starting production locally. After that, the first phase will see the launch of two flagship electric cars made in India.

1.5-seater C-segment SUV (5-Seat SUV)

The company will first launch a 5-seater SUV with a length of around 4,500 to 4,600 mm in local production. The car will compete directly with Mahindra BE 07, Tata Harrier EV and VinFast VF 7. Skoda has chosen this segment as C-segment is more profitable than B-segment and there is a bigger opportunity to export abroad.

2. 7-seater family SUV (7-Seat Family SUV)

Skoda's second made-in-India EV will be a 7-seater SUV, designed keeping in mind customers with large families and road trips. It will compete with Mahindra XEV 9S, MG Hector Tomahawk and Tata Safari EV in the market.

INDIA MAIN PLATFORM AND LOCAL MANUFACTURE OF BATTERY

Both these new EVs will be based on the 'India Main Platform', which is a modified version of the China Main Platform for Indian conditions. Skoda plans to locally manufacture the battery packs down to the cell level to develop the technology as per the preference of Indian consumers and keep the cost of the cars under control.
