New Delhi, 24 August 2026: In a major success against drug smuggling, officials of Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) MP and UP units successfully conducted 'Operation Black Hawk' and seized a total of 18.64 kg of crude heroin in a series of operations near Lucknow (UP). Three key members of the inter-state smuggling network have been arrested. This intoxicant was brought from the North-Eastern states and was being smuggled for consumption in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the information received, after receiving the first accurate information from the CBN MP unit regarding the movement of drugs from the North-East region towards Lucknow, joint teams of CBN MP and UP unit had laid a strategic cordon on the Sultanpur-Lucknow highway. After continuous tracking at various toll plazas, the strike team intercepted the Assam-registered car near Lucknow. The vehicle was found empty and the occupants of the vehicle claimed to be innocent. The operational officers became suspicious when the occupants of the vehicle revealed during interrogation that they had refueled four times in a distance of just 500 km.
Physical tapping test of the fuel tank confirmed the suspicion of presence of pollen. At the CBN office in Lucknow, technical assistance was used to disassemble the fuel tank, in which 25 waterproof packets containing 16.46 kg of crude heroin were found in a specially made compartment. Both the suspects were arrested.

One arrested with 2.16 kg heroin near Barabanki
Another specific intelligence received by the CBN UP unit pointed to a heavy truck involved in drug trafficking on the Siliguri-Lucknow corridor. CBN teams had tracked the vehicle at several toll plazas before intercepting it near Barabanki. During systematic physical examination, 2.16 kg of crude heroin Santadale was found in a specially made secret chamber inside the body frame of the vehicle. A suspect was arrested.
A crime has been registered against all three suspects under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Both the transport vehicles and the entire quantity of intoxicants have been seized. A comprehensive financial and logistical investigation is currently underway to locate key suppliers and disrupt their associated distribution channels in the North-East.
