Bike Comparison:KTM 160 Duke and Yamaha MT-15 V2 are the two major sporty bikes in the 160cc segment in the Indian market. KTM has recently launched the 160 Duke based on the 200 Duke platform. Both the motorcycles share a 6-speed gearbox, sporty design and modern features, but there are differences in engine, brakes, weight and price.

Engine and Power
The KTM 160 Duke gets a 164.2cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. It delivers 19PS of power at 9,500rpm and 15.5Nm of torque at 7,500rpm. It comes with a 6-speed gearbox.

The Yamaha MT-15 V2 is powered by a 155cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 18.4PS at 10,000rpm and 14.1Nm of torque at 7,500rpm. It also has a 6-speed transmission. On paper, the KTM is ahead in both power and torque. However, Yamaha has been provided with VVA technology, which helps in giving better performance at low and high rpm.

Suspension and brakes
The KTM 160 Duke gets a split-trellis frame, inverted front fork with 138mm of travel and a preload-adjustable monoshock with 168mm of travel. The MT-15 V2 features a Deltabox frame, inverted front fork and linked preload-adjustable monoshock.

KTM has an edge in braking. It has 320mm front and 230mm rear discs, whereas Yamaha has 282mm front and 220mm rear discs. Both have dual-channel ABS. SuperMoto ABS mode is also available in KTM.

Weight and Features
KTM has a 10.1 liter fuel tank and Yamaha has a 10 liter fuel tank. The Duke has a seat height of 815mm and ground clearance of 174mm, while the MT-15 has a seat height of 810mm and ground clearance of 170mm. Yamaha’s 141kg weight is 6kg less than KTM’s 147kg.

Among the features, KTM has LCD console, connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. Yamaha has been provided with TFT cluster, connectivity, navigation and traction control.

Price and which bike is better?
The Delhi ex-showroom price of the KTM 160 Duke is around ₹1.85 lakh, while the Yamaha MT-15 V2 is priced between ₹1.70 lakh and ₹1.81 lakh.

If your priority is power, braking and aggressive design then KTM 160 Duke is a better option. If you want light weight, VVA and traction control, then Yamaha MT-15 V2 may be more suitable.
