Tezzbuzz Desk- A controversy has arisen over the name of a new fish market built at a cost of about Rs 3.90 crore in Surat, Gujarat. Name of this market built in Nanpura-Lakkadkot area 'Shri Narendra Modi Wholesale Fish Market' The board was placed and installed. The reason for the controversy is that according to local businessmen, no official proposal or approval regarding this name was given by Surat Metropolitan Municipality (SMC).
After the board came up, the matter came under discussion between the local fish traders and the administration. Some traders have objected to the use of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's name for the fish market.
'Use of Prime Minister's name is not appropriate'
Surendra Lashkari, a prominent trader of the fish market, raised questions on this naming and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a vegetarian. He argues that in such a situation it is not appropriate to associate his name with the non-vegetarian market. The businessman said that given the name of the Prime Minister and his public image, such naming could create controversy. Traders demand that this board installed in the market should be removed keeping in mind the dignity of the Prime Minister. They allege that the name 'Shri Narendra Modi Wholesale Fish Market' was not decided under any official process, but Kalpesh Navsariwala, President of Surat Fish Merchant Association, kept this name on his behalf.
Traders say that if the market is named after their traditional 'Kahar-Machi Society' If it is kept in the name of, there will be no dispute. He believes that this will maintain the identity of the local community and there will be no controversy over the name of any political person.
Association president defended the name
At the same time, President of Surat Fish Merchant Association, Kalpesh Navsariwala has defended the name of the market. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched many schemes for the fishermen community of the country and the Central Government has also created a separate ministry for the development of the fisheries sector. Navsariwala justified naming the market after the Prime Minister and said that in view of the schemes and contribution of the Central Government in the interest of the fishermen community, it is not right to create controversy over this naming.

Question on administrative approval also
Now the most important question in this entire controversy is that under what process the name of this market, built at a cost of about Rs 3.90 crore, was decided. If no official proposal or approval was given by SMC regarding the naming, then who put the board named after the Prime Minister in the market and under what authority?
At present, differences of opinion have emerged among traders regarding the name of the market. One side is demanding removal of the board, while the association president is defending his decision.
