Omar Marmoush is expected to follow his Manchester City team-mate to north London.

Tottenham have confirmed Savio’s shirt number after completing his long-awaited transfer from Manchester City.

The Brazilian winger, who was known as Savinho during his spell at City, completed his move to Spurs on Tuesday in a deal worth an initial £75million, with a further £5m in guaranteed add-ons and another £5m in possible add-ons, taking the total potential value of the transfer to £85m.

That makes it a club-record sale for City and pushes Tottenham’s major spending drive in an ambitious summer transfer window beyond the £300m mark.

Spurs have given Savio the No17 shirt, which was recently vacated by former club captain Cristian Romero after his £34.2m move to Atletico Madrid earlier this month.

Other Tottenham players to have worn that number in recent years include Moussa Sissoko and Andros Townsend.

The 22-year-old is looking forward to working under Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi after finally completing a move that had been heavily linked throughout the summer window.

“It’s taken a while but I’m very happy to be here,” Savio told Tottenham’s official website.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world.

“As soon as I spoke to the head coach I knew I had to come. He told me he wants to help me reach the highest level, and I believe we can do that together, as a team.”

Savio, whose full name is Savio Moreira de Oliveira, used the name Savinho during his two years at City, but has now asked to be referred to as Savio going forward. That will also be the name printed on the back of his Spurs shirt.

He wore Savio on his shirt during a loan spell at City Football Group sister club Girona in the 2023/24 season. Before that, he played for another CFG club, Troyes, and also spent time at PSV Eindhoven after starting his career in Brazil with Atletico Mineiro.

Savio’s move to north London is expected to be quickly followed by that of City team-mate Omar Marmoush, with Tottenham closing in on an initial season-long loan deal for the Egypt forward that includes an option to make the transfer permanent next summer for £50m.

Spurs also remain interested in Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo, who is now also being linked with City. City are looking for replacements for Savio and Marmoush after agreeing a £34m deal with Palmeiras for Brazilian attacker Allan Elias.

De Zerbi had previously said he wanted two or three more signings before the transfer window shuts on September 1, hinting at a transfer “bomba”.

Because he was signed and registered before Tuesday’s midday deadline, Savio is available to make a quick Spurs debut on Wednesday night, when De Zerbi’s side — beaten 3-0 by Brentford on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season — host Championship side Charlton in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Spurs then return home again to face Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Savio is Tottenham’s seventh new signing of the summer so far, with the club having broken their transfer record twice within a few days last month to sign midfielders Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.

Jan Paul van Hecke joined from Brighton for £60m, while Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka all arrived on free transfers.

Savio was reported to have been dealing with illness before the start of the new season, which led to his omission from Enzo Maresca’s Manchester City squad for the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal. He was also left out of Sunday’s dramatic comeback against Bournemouth in the Premier League.
