Roma forwards Donyell Malen and Paulo Dybala emerged as the leading performers of Serie A Round 1, but Italian players also made a strong impression, especially Pio Esposito, Antonio Vergara and Davide Frattesi.
The opening round of the 2026-27 Serie A season has now been completed, with every major club in Italy’s top division beginning with a win.
Roma’s 4-0 victory over Fiorentina on Monday was the final match of Week 1 and it showcased the standout players of the round: Dybala and Malen. Malen netted a hat-trick, with all three goals created by three assists from La Joya.
It is no surprise, therefore, that both featured among the highest-rated players of Round 1 in the Italian sports newspapers.
The average player rating was 8.5/10 for Malen and 8/10 for Dybala, but the top eight performers of Week 1 also offered encouraging signs for the Italy national team.
Inter’s Pio Esposito opened his campaign with an excellent backheel goal and one assist in a 4-1 win over Monza. Vergara also made a major contribution after coming off the bench, scoring once and providing an assist in Napoli’s controversial 2-0 win over Genoa.
Frattesi, too, came on as a substitute in Lazio’s away match against Bologna and scored the winner for the Biancocelesti at the Dall’Ara.
Malen (Roma) 8.5
Dybala (Roma) 8.0
Esposito (Inter) 7.5
Rabiot (Milan) 7.5
Vergara (Napoli) 7.5
De Bruyne (Napoli) 7.5
Romano (Cagliari) 7.5
Frattesi (Lazio) 7.5
