Toby Collyer has drawn interest from both of his former loan clubs.

West Bromwich Albion are reportedly facing competition from Hull City, with both clubs looking at a permanent move for Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer.

According to Hull Live, the Red Devils youngster spent one half of last season on loan at the Baggies and the Tigers respectively, although the two sides experienced very different fortunes during the 2025/26 campaign.

West Brom managed to keep relegation at bay after a major improvement in results under James Morrison, and that momentum has carried into the current season with competitive wins over Norwich City and Burnley.

Hull, on the other hand, pulled off a major surprise by winning the Championship play-off final in May under Sergej Jakirovic. They then marked their first Premier League match in more than nine years against Collyer's current club with a 2-0 victory at the MKM Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

There is now only one week left before the transfer window shuts until New Year's Day, so clubs do not have much time to complete the deals they need to strengthen their squads.

That could become a frustrating situation for Morrison if the newly promoted top-flight side manage to beat Albion to this particular signing.

West Brom have already been among the busiest Championship clubs in this summer's transfer market, bringing in seven new players so far.

That includes midfield recruits Felix Horn Myhre and Rabby Nzingoula from SK Brann and RC Strasbourg respectively, with the latter being confirmed shortly after the Baggies' interest was exclusively revealed by Football League World.

However, Morrison has also seen former captain Alex Mowatt leave the club after he joined Midlands rivals Derby County last week, before interest in Collyer resurfaced.

The 22-year-old midfielder made 12 appearances at The Hawthorns between August and November 2025 before suffering a calf injury against Birmingham City.

Although those fitness problems continued during his time at Hull, it was reported last week that the Black Country club were considering a permanent deal. Hull Live now says the Tigers could secure a permanent move themselves before the 11PM deadline on September 1st, as they continue to monitor Collyer's situation at Old Trafford.

Before his unfortunate spell in the Championship last season, Collyer remained very highly regarded within the Old Trafford dressing room after being given his breakthrough by the likes of former Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim.

The Worthing-born midfielder has made 13 appearances in all competitions for the 20-time champions so far. Perhaps the standout among those came in January 2025, when he made a 17-minute cameo against Rangers in the UEFA Europa League and was praised by United captain Bruno Fernandes.

"He's a really good kid who wants to learn. He's eager to listen and has big, big qualities. He's aggressive off and on the ball, he's class in tight spaces, and he's just going to get better," said the Portuguese.

At this point in Collyer's career, it is interesting to consider where his long-term development would be best served, especially after limited game time over the past 12 months.

Naturally, staying in the Premier League could be a major attraction for Hull, although they have also been linked with other midfield targets such as Paris Saint-Germain's Renato Sanches.

With Morrison having previously worked on Ryan Mason's coaching staff during Collyer's short spell in B71, the Scot will know exactly what the midfielder could add to his Championship midfield, provided he can remain injury-free.
