Week one produces a performance-based table rather than the official Premier League standings. It is reset after every gameweek and places teams mainly according to how they performed.

Hull City are on top after thoroughly outplaying Manchester United. Sergej Jakirovic’s back three system with wing-backs exposed familiar weaknesses, Oli McBurnie stood out, and Hull dominated far more duels. Regan Slater’s deliveries and Mohamed Belloumi’s nutmegs added further quality to the display.

Brentford are second under Keith Andrews after troubling Tottenham with direct passes into Kevin Schade or Igor Thiago, along with an aggressive press. Mamadou Sangare, their £41 million record signing, registered two assists and already looks like a candidate for signing of the season.

Brighton are third and also top of the actual table, although Aston Villa played their part with an own goal, a first-half red card and risky build-up play. Georginio Rutter made runs in behind for the second goal, while Jack Hinshelwood scored twice operating as a No 10.

Chelsea, in fourth, were driven by Palmer, who combined well with Morgan Rogers and Joao Pedro as all three got on the scoresheet at Fulham. Arsenal, in fifth, hardly had to get out of second gear against promoted Coventry, with Christos Tzolis forcing mistakes, creating goals and shooting whenever he had sight of goal.

The remaining positions were: Everton 6, Ipswich Town 7, Leeds United 8, Newcastle United 9, Manchester City 10, Bournemouth 11, Liverpool 12, Fulham 13, Nottingham Forest 14, Crystal Palace 15, Sunderland 16, Coventry City 17.

Manchester United are 18th after a performance Michael Carrick said never quite came together. Tottenham are 19th after a dreadful display, while Aston Villa are 20th after a chaotic opening match.
