Rakhis made from cotton, jute, paper, wood, cloth and seeds are being preferred by consumers while avoiding plastic, synthetic beads and non-biodegradable materials. Therefore, the thread tied on the wrist is now becoming a means of connecting with nature. Eco-friendly rakhis along with traditional rakhis in city markets (Raksha Bandhan) different types are available. In it, the concept of 'build rakhi and plant trees' is getting special attention. The concept of these rakhis is that if the rakhi is planted in the soil after use, a plant will grow from its seeds.

Efforts to reduce waste

After Rakshabandhan, rakhyas and their plastic packaging go to waste in large quantities. So this year, paper bags, cloth bags and recyclable materials are being used. Paper, cotton, wood and natural materials are also being preferred for decoration instead of plastic.

Rakhi making at home

Some families also tend to prepare rakhi at home using scraps of old cloth, wool, paper, thread and beads. Workshops for children are imparting the message of recycling and environment conservation along with creativity.
