Bruno Fernandes has already collected the Premier League Player of the Season and Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year honours.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes could complete a hat-trick of individual awards today after being named on the shortlist for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year.

Fernandes set a new Premier League assist record last season, surpassing the mark previously shared by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, as he helped Manchester United bounce back from a poor first half of the campaign to finish third under Michael Carrick.

That form has already earned him the Premier League Player of the Season prize and the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award.

He is now aiming to win the PFA Players’ Player of the Year for the first time and become the first Manchester United player since Wayne Rooney in 2010 to claim the honour.

Five other players have also been nominated by their fellow professionals, and three Arsenal stars have unsurprisingly made the shortlist after the club’s Premier League title-winning season.

David Raya, Gabriel and Declan Rice are in contention alongside Fernandes after each playing a major role in ending the Gunners’ 22-year wait to be crowned champions of England.

Raya started all but one match on the way to securing a third straight Premier League Golden Glove award, while Gabriel was a key part of the strongest defence in the division, which conceded just 27 goals.

Rice contributed four goals and seven assists in 36 Premier League appearances, missing one game through injury before being rested for the final match of the season against Crystal Palace after the title had already been sealed.

Manchester City duo Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki complete the shortlist, with Haaland winning the Golden Boot after scoring 27 goals — five more than Brentford’s Igor Thiago.

Mohamed Salah won the Players’ Player of the Year award last year, but no Liverpool player has been included this time.

The winner will be revealed at the 53rd annual PFA Awards Ceremony in Manchester on Tuesday, August 25.
