Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has raised questions on ICC’s attitude regarding the pitches prepared for Test matches in Australia. Gavaskar says that ICC makes a lot of difference between Australia and India. Gavaskar said that in the last few years, four Test matches in Australia have ended within two days. Despite this, there was no criticism of such pitches as is seen when matches end early in the Indian subcontinent. He called it a double attitude of ICC.

Let us tell you that recently the Australian team captained by Pat Cummins made a brilliant comeback in the second test against Bangladesh and won by an innings and 51 runs. With this victory, the two-match series became level at 1-1. Australia bowled out Bangladesh for less than 100 runs in both the innings. Gavaskar also told in his column that the two Ashes Tests played in Perth and Melbourne last year also ended within two days. But despite this there was no criticism of this ground.

What did Gavaskar say?
Gavaskar also raised questions about the excessive bounce available on Australian pitches. He said, “So another Test in Australia ended within two days. This has happened four times in the last few years and we did not hear any criticism of such trampoline-like pitches. Mackay’s pitch was not a surprise. After losing to Bangladesh in the first Test, the Australian team was going to prepare such a pitch, which would help the fast bowlers.”

Displeasure over ICC’s attitude
Gavaskar also questioned reports of a possible ‘very good’ rating for the McKay Test. He said that it would be surprising to get such a rating despite the test ending in two days. Gavaskar said, “As I said earlier, the double standards are surprising. Let’s see what rating the match referee gives to McKay’s pitch.” He indicated to the Indian fans that they should not have too much expectation in this matter.
