Before the Wedding, Make Your Hands and Feet Glow With This Homemade Body Scrub
Wedding season often means paying extra attention to your face, but your hands, feet, elbows and knees deserve some care too. Instead of buying an expensive body scrub, you can make a simple homemade version using ingredients commonly found in the kitchen.
A scrub made with rice and pulses can help remove loose, dead skin cells and leave the skin feeling smoother. However, it won’t permanently lighten your natural skin tone, and gentle use is important to avoid irritation.
How to Make the Scrub
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons rice
- 2 tablespoons moong dal or masoor dal
- 1–2 tablespoons plain curd or milk
- 1 teaspoon honey
- A few drops of coconut or almond oil, optional
Step 1: Prepare the Powder
Wash and completely dry the rice and dal.
Grind them separately or together into a fine powder. Don’t make the mixture too coarse because sharp particles can cause tiny scratches and irritation.
Step 2: Mix the Scrub
Take 2 tablespoons of the powder in a bowl.
Add curd or milk little by little until you get a soft, spreadable paste. Mix in the honey and a few drops of oil if your skin tends to feel dry.
How to Apply It
Before using the scrub, wash your hands and feet with lukewarm water.
Apply a thin layer of the mixture and massage very gently in circular motions for about 30–60 seconds. Don’t scrub aggressively.
Leave it on for another 5 minutes if comfortable, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
Pat your skin dry and immediately apply a moisturiser.
For Better Results Before the Wedding
Don’t wait until the night before the event. Start a simple routine 1–2 times a week several weeks ahead.
For everyday care:
- Moisturise hands and feet regularly.
- Apply sunscreen to exposed hands and feet during the day.
- Keep your feet clean and moisturised.
- Avoid harsh scrubbing or frequent exfoliation.
- Drink enough water and maintain a balanced diet.
A Word of Caution
Natural ingredients aren’t automatically suitable for every skin type. Patch-test the mixture first, particularly if you have sensitive skin.
Avoid using the scrub on cuts, rashes, sunburn, eczema or irritated skin. Don’t use lemon juice or baking soda as an extra “brightening” ingredient—they can irritate the skin.
The Bottom Line
A homemade rice-and-dal scrub can be an inexpensive way to gently exfoliate your hands and feet before a wedding. It can make rough skin feel smoother and temporarily give it a fresher appearance, but it cannot permanently change your skin colour.
For wedding-ready skin, gentle exfoliation combined with regular moisturising and sun protection is a safer approach than aggressive DIY treatments.
