There is a mad rush among Telugu filmmakers to target the Sankranthi 2027 season. While a couple of films have already announced their Sankranthi release plans after completing a significant portion of their shoots, some are locking release dates even before going on floors. Venkatesh-Kalyan Ram’s January 12 Vidudala, Sai Dharam Tej’s Sambarala Yetigattu, Sharwanand’s George Krish and Chiranjeevi’s Kaaka have already announced their release dates and secured Sankranthi slots. Ravi Teja’s new film, produced by Dil Raju’s SVC, is the latest addition to the increasingly crowded festival season. Adding to the competition, the pan-Indian film Mahakali is scheduled to hit theatres on January 8. This means at least half a dozen films are now targeting the Sankranthi window. On top of these, one or two dubbed Tamil films are also likely to join the race and compete for screens. The Sankranthi season is traditionally the biggest release window for Telugu cinema, with audiences willing to watch multiple films during the extended holiday period. However, six major releases, along with dubbed films, could create a serious shortage of screens. The bigger question is whether all these films can secure enough theatres and sustain a healthy number of shows throughout the festival period.
