RRB record profit of Rs 10,176 crore, emphasis on increasing loans

New Delhi. The country’s regional rural banks (RRBs) have reported the highest ever net profit of Rs 10,176 crore (consolidated approximately Rs 10,176 crore) in the financial year 2025-26.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Finance Ministry said that the net profit of RRBs increased by 49 percent to a record level of Rs 10,176 crore in the financial year 2025-26, which was Rs 6,820 crore in the financial year 2024-25.

At the same time, the Gross Non-Performing Assets (GNPA) and Net Non-Performing Assets (NNPA) of Regional Rural Banks i.e. bad loans have also come down to the lowest ever level of 5.3 per cent and 2.1 per cent respectively.

Sanjay Lohia, Secretary, Department of Financial Services, in his address during the meeting, urged the Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) to maintain better financial performance and further strengthen the last mile credit flow.

Reviewing the financial performance of RRBs, Lohia appreciated the remarkable performance of all RRBs in the financial year 2025-26.

The Finance Ministry said the total business of all 28 RRBs is set to exceed Rs 13.5 lakh crore in FY 2025-26, which is even higher than the business of some individual public sector banks (PSBs).

Presently there are 28 RRBs operating through 22,273 branches in about 700 districts in 26 states and three union territories.

A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Secretary, Department of Financial Services in New Delhi today to review the performance of RRBs.

NABARD Chairman, Chairman of all 28 RRBs, officials of Department of Financial Services, sponsor banks, Reserve Bank of India and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) were present in this meeting.
