New Delhi: Dhruv Jurel's unbeaten century in the Colombo Test against Sri Lanka was not just a cricketing achievement for him. When the Indian wicket-keeper batsman showed off the 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' tattoo on his arm and saluted his father after playing an unbeaten innings of 115 runs off 177 balls, the emotional story behind the celebration to his family and roots came to light.
Jurel told that his celebration was dedicated to his soldier father and farmer grandfather. His father Nem Chand has been in the Indian Army and also served during the 1999 Kargil war. Whereas, his grandfather was a farmer.

Dhruv Jurel told after the end of the day's play that his grandfather was a farmer and father a soldier. He said that these are his roots and he never wants to forget them.
He has kept this feeling alive through the 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' tattoo on his arm. Jurel saluting his father after his century was a symbol of this respect and emotional connection.
The slogan 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' was given by former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in 1965. For Jurel, this is not just a slogan, but an identity of his family's two generations of hard work and service to the country.
Jurel answered his critics with a century
Jurel's century against Sri Lanka came at a time when questions were being raised about his place in the team. Taking advantage of the opportunity, he scored unbeaten 115 runs in 177 balls.
With the help of his innings, India declared the innings at the score of 503/9. This is the second century of Jurel's Test career.
A balance of patience and aggression was seen in his innings. Jurel played an important role in taking the Indian innings to a strong position by batting according to the conditions.
Take advice from Pant regarding batting
Jurel is often seen as a backup wicketkeeper in the presence of Rishabh Pant. In such a situation, Jurel shared his thoughts about batting with Pant and learning from him.
He said that Pant has performed brilliantly for India in Australia and England and has a lot of experience. That's why he likes to take advice from Pant regarding batting in different conditions.
However, Jurel does not try to bat like Pant. He believes that the beauty of Test cricket lies in the different styles of different players.
Read the bowler and decide your game
According to Jurel, he focuses on reading the bowler rather than copying the style of another player. He decides according to the circumstances which bowler to target and whose spell to play carefully.
His performance in the Colombo Test was an example of this thinking, where he batted with patience and completed an unbeaten century.
