India have asked Sri Lanka to follow on in the second Test at Colombo, after bowling the hosts out for 290 in their first innings. The visitors had declared their innings after posting 503 for 9 on Day 2 of the contest. Sri Lanka are likely to suffer another crushing defeat, considering India’s big lead and the poor performance of the home batters.

Sri Lanka added just 25 runs to their total, with Sonal Dinusha amassing 103 off 162 balls, including eight fours and three sixes. He was the last man to be dismissed, with KL Rahul taking his catch on Saransh Jain’s delivery. The India debutant took two wickets. Prasidh Krishna and Manav Suthar claimed three wickets each, while Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj dismissed one batter each.

Earlier, Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel scored centuries after captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bat first in order to take advantage of the good batting conditions. Padikkal struck his second ton in the two-match series, taking his tally to over 300 runs. On the other hand, Jurel’s second Test career hundred helped the visiting team post a massive total.

India are leading the series 1-0, having won the series opener in Galle.
