Manchester United are working on strengthening the full-back positions, with INEOS keen to complete business before the summer transfer window shuts.

It has become evident that Luke Shaw is unable to cope with several matches in a single week, and with Noussair Mazraoui being linked with a surprise move away, the Red Devils could also need cover on the other side of defence.

Harry Amass, who enjoyed an excellent loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday last season, and Jaydan Kamason both caught the eye during pre-season.

The pair even combined for one of the goals against Rosenborg, and United could potentially have saved millions by promoting them instead of spending heavily in the market.

However, it now appears the two youngsters could be on their way out soon. The Daily Mail has reported that both have outgrown academy football and are attracting interest from Championship clubs.

United are willing to sanction a permanent departure, as long as the terms are favourable.

“It was noticeable just how many EFL scouts were there on Monday night to watch an Under 21s team that is still ripe for picking before next week’s deadline.

“Kamason and Harry Amass, who started at right-back and left-back in the 5-0 win, are both expected to draw interest.

“Confidential understands that both are expected to leave, with permanent exits not being ruled out as both players draw significant interest in the Championship, with nothing left for either to gain in academy football.”

In recent academy exits involving players such as Radek Vitek and Ethan Williams, United inserted buyback clauses and sizeable sell-on clauses to protect their long-term interests.

That means both players could yet return to Old Trafford in the future if their development continues, while the 20-time English league champions would also stand to benefit financially even if they establish themselves elsewhere.

These shrewd clauses have helped keep money coming in, as seen in the sales of Mason Greenwood and Alejandro Garnacho.

It is also significant that United now seem more focused on player sales rather than holding on to academy talents for too long, which had often been the case in the past.

If Harry Amass does leave, United are certain to bring in a left-back before the transfer window closes. It will be interesting to see who the club eventually signs.
