BMW India will launch the updated 7 Series and fully electric i7 in the Indian market on September 11. The company has started booking for these two flagship sedans from August 1. According to BMW, there are plans to launch around 25 new models in India in 2026 and the 7 Series and i7 are an important part of this strategy. Along with the exterior design, major changes have been made in the cabin and features in the facelift model.

Changed exterior design
The biggest change is seen in the front profile of the updated BMW 7 Series. It has a split headlamp setup with a new illuminated kidney grille. The slim light unit at the top houses the daytime running lights, while the main headlamps are mounted at the bottom of the bumper.

The car’s long wheelbase and flush-fitting door handles remain intact, although newly designed alloy wheels have been provided. Apart from this, an illuminated embossed ‘7’ logo is also found on the B-pillar.

The rear profile features thin tail-lamps, which extend till the tailgate. The redesigned bumper includes diffuser-like detailing along with new chrome accents and smoked lighting elements.

Many new features found in the cabin
Significant changes have also been made to the interior of the new 7 Series. It has a 17.9-inch central touchscreen, 14.6-inch passenger display and a full-width driver information display at the base of the windscreen. The infotainment system runs on BMW Operating System

Talking about the features, the car gets better voice control system with over-the-air updates, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Apart from this, a new four-spoke steering wheel has also been provided.

BMW has also paid special attention to rear seat passenger comfort. It has features like Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, updated ambient lighting, heated and powered rear armrest and massage function. The most special features of the car include a 31.3-inch theater screen, which supports streaming, video calls and gaming.

What changed in petrol and diesel engines?
The BMW 740i xDrive and 740d xDrive will continue to use the 3.0-litre, six-cylinder mild-hybrid engine. Both models will get 8-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive system.

The power of the 740i xDrive petrol model has increased to 400 hp and maximum torque to 580 Nm. Whereas the 740d xDrive diesel model generates power of 313 hp and torque of 670 Nm.

Bigger battery and more power in electric i7
The new i7 50 xDrive has been introduced in the electric lineup, replacing the i7 50 eDrive. It has a large 112.4 kWh battery with all-wheel drive system. This model generates power of 455 hp and torque of 660 Nm.

A larger battery has also been used in the performance-focused i7 M70 xDrive. Its power has increased to 680 hp and maximum torque has reached 1,100 Nm.

Will compete with Mercedes-Benz S-Class and EQS
Prices for the updated BMW 7 Series and i7 will be revealed at the launch on September 11. In the Indian market, it will compete with luxury flagship models like Mercedes-Benz S-Class and electric Mercedes-Benz EQS.

Taking another step towards expanding its range of electric cars in India, BMW has also introduced the i5 Long Wheelbase. This will be the company’s second locally manufactured electric car in India. Initially it will be offered as First Edition, the sale of which will be limited to only the first 99 customers.
