Nepal Glacier Outbursts: After the news of bursting of glacier lake in Tibet, information has come to light about sudden rapid flood in Rasuwa area of Nepal bordering China. According to the local time of Nepal, around 9 am in the morning, there is news of heavy damage due to flood in Timure and surrounding areas of Rasuwa. Information about the loss of about 1000 people is also coming to light.
Officials said on Wednesday that a sudden massive flood in the area bordering Tibet in the Himalayan country Nepal washed away many villages and project sites. Expressing fear of huge loss, he appealed to the people living on the banks of the river to move to safe and higher places.
What did the officials say?
Government officials said that Syapru Besi and Timure areas of Rasuwa in the hill district have been badly affected. He also asked the people living on the banks of Bhote Koshi river to be more careful. “We have received reports of villages and infrastructure project sites being washed away,” district administrator Narendra Pariyar told Reuters. He said that no definite estimate of loss of life or property is available right now. However, he said that there could be huge loss of life and property, but right now I cannot say anything for sure.
What did Nepal's Prime Minister Balendra Shah say?
Prime Minister Balendra Shah said that along with rescue teams, police and army have also been sent to help in relief and rescue operations. He said that instructions have been given to evacuate people living in low-lying areas to safe places. Apart from this, the government said in its statement that people living on the banks of the river are advised to exercise more caution and remain alert. Bhote Koshi River originates from Tibet and joins the Trishuli River of Nepal, which further flows into India as the Gandak River.
9 people died last year
Last year, nine people had died and 24 went missing in the floods in the Bhote Koshi river. This flood also washed away the 'Friendship Bridge' connecting Nepal and China, due to which transport and trade came to a standstill for several months. According to the regional climate monitoring organization, that flood was caused by the sudden release of water from a supraglacial lake (lake built above a glacier) in Tibet.
