Tokyo. Typhoon 'Soudale' moved westward over the East China Sea on Wednesday after wreaking havoc on Okinawa and other southwestern islands of Japan. Life has been affected due to strong winds, heavy rains and power cuts due to the storm. According to officials, two people have received minor injuries in the accidents.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), Typhoon Saudelle was about 180 kilometers northwest of Okinawa's Okinerabu island late Wednesday morning. At that time, the storm was accompanied by winds blowing at a speed of up to 144 kilometers per hour. The agency said that the storm is moving westward and is likely to reach the coast of eastern China.
The Fire and Disaster Management Agency and provincial officials said Wednesday that two women were injured by Typhoon Saudel. A 78-year-old woman standing outside her home in Uruma city on Okinawa island fell due to strong winds, injuring her head. On nearby Amamioshima Island, a 70-year-old woman was injured after falling down the stairs during a power outage caused by the storm.

About 150 flights to and from Okinawa's Naha Airport were canceled due to the typhoon. At the same time, power supply to more than 30 thousand houses in Kagoshima province was affected. According to Kyushu Electric Power Company, the storm has caused power cuts in many areas, including the Amami area.
Heavy rain has also increased the concern. According to JMA, Amami region recorded more than 23 cm of rainfall during the last 24 hours. The agency has predicted up to 10 cm of rain in the Amami region and 12 cm in Okinawa by Thursday afternoon.
In view of the continuous rain, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning of landslides in Amami area. The administration has appealed to the people to remain alert and stay in safe places during bad weather. As the storm progresses, the weather is also being monitored in the eastern coastal areas of China.
