Manchester United have had an uneven transfer window so far. The Red Devils began the summer determined to reinforce their midfield after it was weakened by Casemiro's departure.

Since then, the English heavyweights have brought in Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, while long-time target Carlos Baleba completed his move from Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this week. INEOS have also added free agent Karl Darlow to strengthen the goalkeeping unit.

Yet, as last weekend's surprise 2-0 loss to Hull City underlined, United may still require more reinforcements if they are to compete at the top level this season. The Red Devils will play in the Champions League this year after ending last season third in the Premier League.

With only a few days remaining in the transfer window, the English giants could be heading for a hectic end to the summer. It now appears manager Michael Carrick is also eager to see more additions made to his squad.

According to Football Insider, Carrick wants to add three more players before the transfer window shuts. The report says: “Michael Carrick wants Man United to make three new signings before the summer transfer window closes next week, sources have told Football Insider.”

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast before the Baleba deal was completed, journalist Pete O’Rourke said: “(Central midfield) has been the key priority area that United’s recruitment team wanted to strengthen, so if they bring in Baleba that’ll be three signings made.”

“Left back is an area of the team that United are looking to strengthen too, they’ve obviously been frustrated in their pursuit of Lewis Hall. They’ve been looking at other players as well, as they want cover and competition for Luke Shaw.”

“And then they have looked at a left winger as well, but maybe that need for a new left winger has been lessened with Marcus Rashford returning to the club. As things stand right now, he might play a big role for United this season, and he’ll almost be like a new signing for them.”

The report further claims that Club Brugge left-back Joaquin Seys is a priority target for the Red Devils this summer. It adds: “Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Club Brugge star Seys is a top left-back target for the Red Devils as it stands.”

United are hoping to land the Belgium international for less than his £30 million valuation, with the report adding: “United are keen on his services, but want to broker a deal for less than his £30m price tag over the next eight days.”

“The likes of Alejandro Balde, David Raum and Jorge Salinas have also been linked to Old Trafford as potential targets to bolster their left-back depth.”

An earlier report carried by The Peoples Person had also linked Seys with a switch to Old Trafford.

United could certainly use added cover for Shaw, who is already on the wrong side of 30 and is now in the final year of his contract. At the same time, the Red Devils may also need a new striker, particularly with Joshua Zirkzee’s future still uncertain.
