Pune/Taekwondo: In the first International Open World Taekwondo Championship recently held in Hyderabad, R. B. Athletes from Horangi Taekwondo Do-Jang Association and St. Felix High School put up a strong performance and bagged as many as 15 gold, 11 silver and 2 bronze medals. On behalf of the organizers, R. B. Horangi Taekwondo The Do-Jang Association was awarded the 'Best Taekwondo Team' award.

In this international competition, Krish Kedgoni won the gold medal in Poomsay category and silver medal in Kyorugi category. Ryan Noronha won gold in Kyorugi and silver in Poomsae. Swaraj Dhanameher won gold in poomsae and silver in Kyorugi. Navya Vishwakarma bagged gold in fast punches and fast kicks, and bronze in poomsae. Ayushi Gade won silver in Kyorugi and bronze in Poomsae. Simantika Pawar bagged gold in fast kicks and silver in poomsae and fast punches.

Yugantika Pawar gave a special performance by winning gold medals in all the three categories of poomsae, fast kicks and fast punches. Amer Shaikh bagged gold in fast punch, silver in fast kick and bronze in poomsae. Diara Nair won gold in fast kick and silver in poomsae. Maitreyi Birje won gold in fast kicks and silver in Kyorugi and fast punches. Kshiraj Gutte won gold in fast kick and fast punch and silver in poomsae. Zara Khan bagged gold in poomsae and silver in speed punch.

Athletes from six countries participated

Athletes from six countries including India, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Nepal, Zimbabwe and Brazil as well as from various parts of India participated in this international tournament held in Hyderabad. More than 1,150 players participated in the tournament. Grandmasters from different countries also had a prominent presence in the tournament. Parents Dipali Mishra, Seema Pawar and Rizwana Shaikh provided valuable support for the successful organization of the competition.

Team Management by Master Ravindra Bhandari

Throughout the competition, R. B. Horangi Taekwondo Do-Jang Association President and Technical Director Master Ravindra Bhandari took charge of training the players along with team management. In the closing ceremony Master Ravindra Bhandari and entire R. B. The Horangi team was specially honored for their outstanding contribution by being invited to the dais. In recognition of the remarkable performance of the team, they were awarded as one of the best taekwondo teams.

Meanwhile, on behalf of St. Felix High School, all the athletes who achieved success in this international competition were felicitated. Provincial Superior Sister Ursula Pinto, Sister Jennifer Perera, School Manager Sister Rosemary Almeida, Principal Lena Paul, Sister Elsa, Supervisor Bella D'Silva and Sports Teachers Sonali Rajebhosale and Rupali Bansode were present on this occasion.
