Emiliano Martinez offered to Chelsea as Blues assess move amid concerns over Robert Sanchez

Chelsea are in talks with the representatives of Emiliano Martinez over a possible late move for the Aston Villa goalkeeper.

Martinez has been offered to Chelsea as the Argentina international looks to seal an exit from Villa Park. The 33-year-old had a possible transfer to Juventus collapse earlier in the summer, while interest from the Saudi Pro League has not developed into a move.

Martinez is looking for a fresh challenge after Aston Villa signed Zion Suzuki from Parma as the club’s new first-choice goalkeeper.

Chelsea are now weighing up the opportunity after Martinez was offered to them, and the goalkeeper is understood to be interested in a switch to West London.

The Blues are considering a late bid for Martinez amid doubts over Robert Sanchez. The Spaniard was responsible for Fulham’s goals during Chelsea’s 3-2 win at Craven Cottage in the Premier League on Monday night, and he has found it difficult to fully convince at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea also have 21-year-old Mike Penders, who returned to the club this summer after spending last season on loan at Strasbourg.

Even so, Martinez would bring proven experience between the posts after enjoying significant success in recent years. The two-time Yashin Trophy winner has claimed three major tournaments with Argentina, including the 2022 World Cup, and also won the Europa League with Aston Villa last season.
