The hardworking sanitation worker about whom we are talking is Sesappa. He is a civic worker from Navoor in Bantwal, Karnataka. His story has now gone viral on social media. A video of him arriving at the local municipality office in his Toyota Fortuner has been shared on Instagram by Daijiworld on their page.

In this short video, Sesappa can be seen behind the steering wheel of his white Type 2 Toyota Fortuner. He is then seen parking his SUV and then picking up his broom and cleaning the streets. The worker is then asked about his journey, to which he explains how he has managed to achieve his dream of owning a Toyota Fortuner while working as a sweeper.

Sesappa’s story is a very interesting and inspiring story. He has mentioned this journey has been very long, and it took him a lot of time, from earning just Rs 50 a day in 1996 to becoming a permanent municipal employee and also taking up additional work. He also has to support his family, and despite everything, he has managed to buy a second-hand Fortuner.

The sanitation worker, during his interview, mentions that he usually reports for duty at around 5 am to 6 am and works on the roads around BC Road in Bantwal. He parks his Fortuner, gets out and begins his sanitation duties. His responsibilities include sweeping roads, cleaning assigned government premises and carrying out other civic work.

He has also driven the municipal body’s waste-disposal vehicle. Sesappa added that he joined the Bantwal Town Municipal Council in 1996, when he earned a daily wage of just Rs 50. He had studied only up to Class 3 and spent his early working years facing considerable financial difficulties. He mentions that there were even periods when his family struggled to arrange enough food.

Continuing his story, he mentions that his early years were not easy as well. He went through a difficult period involving alcoholism. A major turning point came in 2005, when he received advice from then Bantwal police station Sub-Inspector K.U. Belliyappa, who is now a DySP in Udupi. Following this, Sesappa decided to give up drinking and focus on his work and family. And from that point onwards, he began rebuilding his life through discipline and hard work.

Now, it has also been mentioned by Sesappa that he did not depend only on his municipal salary to improve his financial condition. After completing his civic responsibilities, he took up additional work. He also became involved in agriculture and dairy farming and continues to rear cattle.

Additionally, he also handles water-supply work for the local panchayat near his home. And this willingness to work beyond his regular job gradually helped him achieve greater financial stability. He highlights that the Fortuner was not the result of a sudden change in his circumstances. It came after years of working, earning, borrowing and gradually improving his family’s financial position.

One of the most difficult experiences in Sesappa’s life came when his father passed away. At the time, he did not have enough money to arrange his father’s funeral. He eventually carried his father’s body to the banks of the Netravati River and performed the last rites himself.

He highlighted that this particular experience remained with him and became an important reminder of how difficult life can become when a person does not have financial security. Following this, his efforts were not simply about owning expensive things. They were also about ensuring that his family would have a better and more secure life.

Today, Sesappa says he is happy that his wife, two daughters and son have reached a better position than where he started. His next major goal is reportedly to build a new house for his family.

What is more interesting is that Sesappa has always had a liking for automobiles. His journey with cars started with affordable models. Over the years, he has owned many cars, and these include the Maruti 800, Omni, Alto, Ritz and Scorpio before he finally bought the Type 2 Toyota Fortuner from the used car market. He upgraded his cars by selling his previous vehicles and using loans to fund the next purchase.

Sesappa, during the interview, mentions that owning a Fortuner does not mean that he has to distance himself from sanitation work. He emphasised that he does not believe there is anything such as small work. If the work is honest, he is willing to do it. He is also proud of his sanitation duties because they provide a service that benefits the entire community.

Many people might already be aware of this fact, but late billionaire Dhirubhai Ambani, who founded Reliance Industries, had famously said, “If you can dream it, you can do it.” And Sesappa’s journey is a simple example of what that idea can mean in everyday life. He had a dream of owning a car, started with very little, worked multiple jobs and slowly moved from a bicycle to increasingly better cars before finally buying a Fortuner.

There is no profession that should be considered small when it involves honest work. A person’s occupation does not decide their aspirations, and the vehicle they drive does not decide the value of the work they perform.

Bantwal municipal chief officer Theerthaprasad was also asked about Sesappa, and he described him as a quiet, honest and hardworking employee who completes whatever work is assigned to him. He has also continued reporting for duty early in the morning despite the sudden attention around his Fortuner.
