Before the 2027 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has increased special focus on those seven seats of Moradabad division, where the party has been struggling for victory for a long time. The influence of Samajwadi Party (SP) and opposition parties in Moradabad Dehat, Amroha, Sambhal, Nagina, Najibabad, Rampur and Kundarki has been a big challenge for BJP. After not being able to win on these seats for three decades, the party is now preparing to hoist the flag here with the help of new political equations, strong organization and winning faces.
The by-elections of Rampur and Kundarki were important for BJP. BJP won the by-election in Rampur after Azam Khan lost his assembly membership. After this, during the by-election in Kundarki also, the party won, overturning the long standing equation. Both these results gave confidence to BJP that the electoral equations can be changed even in the areas where the opposition is considered strong in Moradabad division. Now the party is eyeing to carry forward the same strategy on the remaining seats also.
Seven seats are SP's stronghold
SP and its social equations have been strong in seats like Moradabad Dehat, Amroha, Sambhal, Nagina and Najibabad. The support of backward and other classes along with Muslim voters has given the opposition an edge in many elections. The challenge before the BJP is not just to keep its traditional voters united. The party will have to make a dent in the social base of the opposition on these seats and field such candidates who have a strong hold at the local level.
looking for a winning face
Regarding 2027, BJP organization is busy searching for winning faces on these seats. The party is preparing to bet on such candidates who can handle local issues and personal influence along with the caste equation. The organization is trying to strengthen the network up to the booth level and identify those areas where BJP had to face weak performance in the last elections.
The changed political equation in Uttar Pradesh after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections has created a new challenge for the BJP. SP has tried to strengthen the backward, Dalit and minority equation. Its effect was also visible in Moradabad division. In such a situation, for BJP in 2027, the competition on these seven seats will not only be with SP, but also on social equations. The party will have to formulate a strategy to include non-Yadav backward classes, Dalits and other influential social groups.
How will the three-decade drought end?
The victory of the by-elections in Rampur and Kundarki has definitely shown the way to BJP but it will not be easy to achieve success on all the seven seats in the assembly elections. Local candidates, booth management, social equations and regional issues will decide the course of the elections. Now the biggest question before the BJP is that in 2027, on the political land where the lotus could not blossom for three decades, what new equation will the party create so that it can break into the strong stronghold of SP and hoist the flag of victory.
