Tezzbuzz Desk- Amid rising sugar prices, a statement by Madhya Pradesh Parliamentary Affairs Minister and BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya has created a political controversy. He said that sugar should be affordable for children, while expensive for elders and elders. Vijayvargiya also advised people above 40 years of age to avoid sugar.

Before the festivals, people are worried about the increase in prices of many essential food items including sugar. Meanwhile, Vijayvargiya expressed his opinion regarding the prices of sugar. He said that nowadays about 90 percent people have given up eating sweets. His argument was that sugar is not considered good for health for people above 40 years of age, hence its price can be increased.

Vijayvargiya suggested that the prices of sugar should be fixed in such a way that children get it cheaper, while elders buy less of it. He also talked about keeping sugar affordable for children at government ration shops. According to him, due to sugar becoming expensive in the open market, older people may reduce its consumption.

The opposition has reacted sharply to this statement of Vijayvargiya. Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari alleged that during the festival season, when common families are troubled by inflation, the minister's statement is like making fun of the problems of poor and middle class people. Congress said that the government should take effective steps to control the rising prices of sugar, and not make such statements regarding inflation.

In fact, due to increase in demand for sweets and other food items during festivals, sugar prices are witnessing a rise. Opposition parties are also raising questions on the government regarding sugar reserves, ethanol policy and availability in the market.

Several steps have been taken by the government to maintain supply in the market and control prices. However, due to high prices in the retail market, the debate about inflation continues. At such a time, Vijayvargiya's statement regarding sugar has become a new issue of political discussion.
