Amidst the increasing demand for SUVs in the Indian automobile market, there is movement in the premium sedan segment as well. Skoda Auto has introduced the new fourth generation Superb for India. This time the biggest feature of the car is its 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine. The company is bringing back a car with diesel powertrain in India after almost six years.
May be launched in 2027
The new Skoda Superb is expected to be launched in India in the first half of 2027. The company will bring it to India from abroad in the form of CBU i.e. completely ready unit. There is information that initially it will be sold in limited numbers.
In India, it can be offered only in the top-spec Laurin & Klement (L&K) trim. The price has not been officially announced yet, but according to estimates its ex-showroom price could be around ₹ 55-60 lakh.
Diesel engine will be the biggest attraction
The new Superb is going to get a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine. In the India-spec model, this engine can produce about 150 bhp power and 360 Nm torque. 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox will be provided with the engine.
The upcoming Superb in India is expected to get FWD i.e. front-wheel drive system. Earlier, its more powerful 193 bhp diesel engine and 4X4 setup was showcased at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo, but a lower powered FWD configuration has been chosen for the Indian production model.
Large cabin with premium design
The new Superb has been designed with a premium yet simple design. It will get a large Skoda grille, Matrix LED headlights, C-shaped LED taillights and 18-inch alloy wheels.
The length of the car is 4,912 mm and wheelbase is 2,841 mm. Because of this, there is enough space for passengers in the cabin. The car has a hatchback-style tailgate, while the boot space is 645 liters.
The interior will be equipped with luxury features
The cabin of the new Superb will be equipped with premium features. It is reported to have a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 10-inch digital driver display and 14-speaker Canton audio system.
Cognac leather seats and soft-touch material will be used in the car. Front seats will also get power adjustment and memory feature along with heating, ventilation and massage function.
Features like separate climate control, sunblinds and sleep package will be provided for rear passengers. However, there is information that the India-spec model will not get a sunroof.
A lot of technology will be available in safety also
In terms of safety, the new Superb can get features like 10 airbags, 360-degree camera and Level-2 ADAS. Apart from this, automatic parking assist, TPMS and electronic parking brake will also be provided.
Will compete with Toyota Camry
In India, the new Superb will compete with cars like Toyota Camry in the premium sedan segment. However, being imported as a CBU model, the Superb is likely to be priced higher than the Camry.
Overall, the return of the new Superb to India is a special one for Skoda. This will not only be the return of a premium sedan, but will also mark the return of the company's TDI diesel engine after nearly six years. If it gets a good response in the Indian market, then in future the company may consider bringing back diesel engines in its other cars also.
